Vittore Baroni, ITALIA

Vittore Baroni/E.O.N. and Small Voices (http://www.smallvoices.it/) are happy to announce the international release of the first in a series of TRAX reprints, paying homage to the seminal networking project ideated in 1981 by Piermario Ciani, Vittore Baroni and Massimo Giacon, that in six years of activities in the most different media involved over 500 international authors.

TRAX REDNIGHT/NOTTEROSSA, 2 cds in special folder plus sticker sheet and postcards, revisits the 1982 audiovisual anthology of the same name, dedicated to the dark world of cult American writer William S. Burroughs. The first cd contains an audio cut-up mixed by Vittore Baroni and Daniele Ciullini with materials from 34 artists of 7 countries. Cd 2 offers a new mix of the original tapes, created for the occasion by Gianluca Becuzzi (Limbo, Kinetix, Noise Trade Company), and a slide-show of 200 images by international networkers. The package includes original texts and new introductory notes by Vittore Baroni, together with comments expressly written by Nigel Ayers of Nocturnal Emissions, Rod Summers and Wu Ming 1. The new graphic lay-out, that updates to the third millennium the neat and iconic imprint given to the TRAX productions by the late Piermario Ciani, has been conceived by Laura Fiaschi + Gabriele Pardi / http://www.gumdesign.it/.

“On an island in the middle of the East Sea there is a spirit with a human body and the face of an eagle, but with human ears. He wears as eardrops two yellow snakes with hairy human heads (hippies, to be precise); he also has two yellow snakes in the place of his feet, with cat heads. He is called William. William begat TRAX, TRAX begat Blissett, who then left for who knows where. TRAX resides in the North Sea, William in the East Sea. William is the god of the sea and of the red night. TRAX has a thousand heads and is a lighthouse keeper. On top of the lighthouse he has a room full of machines and masks. When the sunset tinges the sky red, TRAX goes up, wears the masks and turns on the machines. From the other sea, William hears the humming and smiles”. Wu Ming 1
